Why are these RC cars so ridiculously fast? Well, it’s often quite straightforward:

  • They often use 6s or 8s batteries for power
  • They are ultimately designed for epic speed runs
  • They have engineered suspension and wheels
  • Their controllers are designed for maximum range
  • They use brushless motors which have high torque

Why Speed Isn’t Everything

Anything designed for 80mph and above isn’t actually that fun to play with. They’re designed for racing or drag speed runs where they’ll be out of power within 2 to 3 minutes and with a hot motor to boot. This is a key reason why you shouldn’t simply pick the fastest RC car on this list, but look for the one that’s going to tick additional boxes such as suspension travel, tire size, clearance and center of gravity.

Fast RC Cars and Children

It’s not recommended to buy a fast RC car for children. Anything that maxes out at 35 mph such as the Traxxas Rustler is perfect for children up to 12 years of age. From there, the Traxxas Slash would be ideal for children.

Nitro Engines

We certainly wouldn’t recommend Nitro engines either, especially if this is your first RC car. Go for a brushless motor in 6s or 8s configuration to get the most out of your time outside. You don’t want to be messing around with broken components and mixing oils each time you wish to play.

In Summary

There we have it! 75+ seriously fast RC cars, drifters, buggies and stadium trucks to keep you (and your kids) entertained this summer! We’ll be updating this list annually with our best picks.
